When we go to the office every day, we carry on a time-honored tradition of getting to know our clients.
At the dental wellness center, our goal is to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. However, there are situations where removing a tooth is the best option for your overall oral health. Whether due to decay, trauma, or crowding, dental extractions are a common procedure that our skilled team performs with care and precision.
What is a Dental Extraction?
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. This procedure may be necessary when a tooth is severely damaged, decayed, or poses a risk to surrounding teeth. Extractions are also performed to address impacted wisdom teeth or to create space for orthodontic treatment.
When tooth decay extends deep into the pulp and root, it can cause a painful infection. If the damage is too extensive for a root canal or filling, extraction may be the best solution to prevent the infection from spreading.
Advanced gum disease can weaken the bone and tissues supporting your teeth, leading to tooth loss. In some cases, extraction is necessary to protect the surrounding teeth and gums.
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are often impacted or grow in at an awkward angle, causing pain and crowding. Extraction prevents future problems such as infection, misalignment, or damage to adjacent teeth.
In preparation for orthodontic treatment, one or more teeth may need to be removed to create space for proper alignment.
Teeth that are fractured or severely damaged due to trauma may require extraction if they cannot be restored.
We begin by applying a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth, ensuring your comfort during the procedure.
Simple Extraction: For visible teeth that can be easily removed, a simple extraction is performed using forceps to gently loosen and remove the tooth.Surgical Extraction: If the tooth is impacted or has not fully emerged (common with wisdom teeth), a surgical extraction may be required. This involves making a small incision in the gum and may require the tooth to be sectioned before removal.
After the extraction, we will provide detailed aftercare instructions to promote healing and minimize discomfort. This may include pain management, dietary recommendations, and tips to prevent dry socket (a common post-extraction complication).Tooth Replacement Options: After a tooth extraction, it’s important to consider replacing the missing tooth to maintain proper function and appearance. We offer several restorative options, including : Dental Implants, Bridges, Dentures. These options can help restore your smile and prevent shifting of nearby teeth, ensuring long-term oral health.
